News! Surfing champ Kelly Slater is ready for 2011 ASP World Tour, at least for now...

The 2011 Assn. of Surfing Professionals World Tour kicks off this week with the Quiksilver Pro, scheduled to begin Saturday on Australia's Gold Coast.

Returning to the lineup of top tour surfers is Kelly Slater, possibly vying for an 11th ASP World Tour title. The Floridian, however, remains mum on his plans for this season, or if he's considering retirement now that he's got a 10th crown under his belt.

"I'd love to get another win at the Quiksilver Pro," the iconic natural-footer said. "Either a great way to go out or to start another campaign! I can't honestly answer that [my plans for the year] right now. I've thought about doing a farewell aloha tour and saying 'bye to the tour and I've thought about retiring after this event for real."

Slater, 39, used the off-season to recharge in Hawaii and California, working on equipment and taking advantage of the winter swells.

"I’ve been hanging in Hawaii and getting boards sorted out in California and having down time," Slater said. "Surfing myself out most of January was fun."
So, at least for now, it's back to business. Slater, 39, will face Australian Kai Otton, 31, plus one of the event wildcards in the opening round of competition.

The Quiksilver Pro will run from Saturday through March 9 and will be webcast live via www.quiksilverpro.com

Running in conjunction with the men’s event will be Roxy Pro Gold Coast, the opening event in the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour.

NEWS!!!

News, 20 February, 2011 : - - Acimba do Padre, Brazil -- Brazilian Alejo Muniz, 20, has won the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime Event 2011 Hang Loose Pro Contest in a three-to-five foot surf at the Cacimba do Padre, Fernando de Noronha, island tropical located at 345 kilometers from the Brazil’s northeastern coast.

Alejo Muniz takes US$ 40,000 prize money and 6.500 pts for the ASP World Ranking. The runner up Dion Atkinson (Australia), 24, scored 7.14 pts in the final, well under Alejo Muniz who won the event with an impressive combined two wave heat tally of 13.00 pts.
To get into the final the Australian first defeated the South Africa’s Shaun Joubert in a very close heat where he scored a total of 10.44 pts over 10.06 pts of the South African. Then he faced Brazilian Heitor Alves, and once again Dion Atkinson won by a slight margin making a total heat score of 10.73 x 9.17 pts.

“I’m very happy for the result. Alejo (Muniz) got all the best waves in the final, also he fired the whole contest showing a very mature surfing, so he deserved this win”, said Dion Atkinson. “I really would like to win, but anyway it was good to make the final in this beautiful place. Few events are held in such hollow waves. It’s one of my favorite events in the world and I’ll still come back here in the coming years to try to win this fantastic event”.

Surfer riping up Blouberg!!!
This is the other route to Gas Chambers, if you go this way be weary of ticks. What you see in the corner is Gas Chambers and in the middle of the beach is power box, but thats not as good as Gassies
If anybody is thinking about getting in the water on friday it will be a good idea, because the swell is looking pretty good. I recomend Derderstein or stroom. (take a 20 minute walk down the dirt road to the left after the boom and you will be in Gas Chambers if you go to Stroom)
